Gen 1 Bed lengths and bolt pattern
Hello, has anyone on here done an accurate coparison of bed lengths, short bed, cab and chassis to long bed cab and chassis vrs a short extended cab and chassis. How about years that will fit one another.
I have a 1989 Dodge Dakota convertible with a damaged bed, and access to a 1995 "short bed" for $200. Might be a good swap for the money... but will it be the same as far as length, wheel well opening and bolt pattern underneath?

There is only 2 bed lengths 6.5ft (short bed) and 8ft (long bed). 87-96 all use the same so the 95 is swappable. Here is a link with lots of dimensions listed. http://www.dakota-truck.net/infosheet.html

Wheel bolt pattern:
1987-1990 5 x 4.5" (lots use this bolt pattern from Chevy's to Toyota)
1991-2009 6 x 4.5", 6 x 114.3 (rare, hard to find)
Wheels that will work for the 6x 4.5:
91-04 Dakotas, 98-03 Durangos, All Vipers, and 05-08 Nissan Pathfinder/Frontier/Xterra, 04-05: Cadillac SRX, Suzuki Equator 08-09.

the only difference is on the tailgate...it will still fit.....but on the earlier first gen tailgates the word "dodge" is embossed in the tailgate.......on latter first gen the words are just a vinyl stick-on i believe

and on the 1994-1996 tailgates have a 3rd brake light mounted in it. all ya have too do is take the tailgate off of yours and put it in place of one that has the 3rd brakelight and it will fit perfect.
