Default Needing help with dakota

Is there any difference in the A500 transmisson and the 42RH. My 92 dakota has had a bad transmission for three years now and I was told the A500 wouldn't work in my truck.

A 42rh is an A500 mostly with electrical upgrades. The name A500 is typically 91-down, the later years do have the upgrades but most older ones don't. The upgrades are an electronically controlled Over Drive (OD) and Torque Converter Clutch (TCC). Also there are different versions of output shafts.
