Default Ignition timing on the 2.5?

Just a quick question, I read in a repair manual that the timing for the 2.5 k is controlled by the computer and you can't turn the distributor. Yet I read else where that you can. Any one no anything about this? If the dist Isn't the key, how could I change the timing?

The fuel sync is controlled by the distributor. I think.

The 2.5 4Cly timing is controlled by the PCM, but the base timing has to be set by the distributor, disconnect the coolant temp sensor first.

The V6 and V8 Magnums are fully controlled by the PCM and moving the distributor sets the fuel sync.

So I could advance it a bit by disconnecting the coolant temp sensor, turning it x amount of degrees (not much in this case) and reconnect it? The pcm would then compensate for it?

You can try, but the PCM has a pre-programed set of valves to follow. So it may try adjusting the timing back to where it was even though you moved the distributor. So if your trying to gain HP, it is doubtfull it will work.
