Default 1987 Dakota 4X4

Greetings All,

I am hoping that some one here can assist me in identifying the Engine In my new work truck.

I purchased the 87 4X4 from the neighbor who originally bought it for his son. He didn't realize that some of the mechanicals were beyond him and that the truck had a 318 under the hood with a Holly 600CFM 4Bbl. I purchased it. It starts but but has some Carb issues. I have rebuilt so many Quadrajets it's not funny, but have never gutted a Holly, should be fun.

I am not sure if they beefed up the Tranny when they did the swap or not, it originally had a V6.

The block casting numbers are 4006730-318-1
the stampings on the block below the drivers head 6M318-01062769

My biggest question is what vintage is the block, I plan on ordering a master kit, and rebuilding it this winter.

Who makes the best manuals for Body, Engine, Transmission for these trucks.

Any Help would be greatly appreciated

The best choice for engine ID decoders is to Google it. There are a few for Mopars. Post up some pictures of the engine there might be a few who can narrow it down. Most LA engines will be the same from late 60's- 90. (Around those years I don't them exactly)

As for manuals for the Dakota body and electrical we have them in the FAQ in the 1st gen Dakota section.

As for the engine check with the 1st generation Ram section they might have something for the LA engines.

I will move this to the 1st generation Dakota sub-forum.
