Default Electric radiator fan thermostat question..

I'm converting to an electrical radiator fan on my '96 318 dakota. I have the thermostat and am heading the the junkyard tomorrow in search of a taurus fan. My question is concerning the thermostat probe. Will it work if inserted externally through the fins of the radiator? or does it need to be in direct contact will the coolant in the system? Thanks, Any help is appreciated.

It depends on the version you got. Read the instructions on how to mount it.
