Default Warm up tranny issues.

This is another thing that has been bothering me lately, definitely not an oil issue, even though sometimes my oil light comes on when this happens.

I usually give the truck 15 minutes to warm up before I go anywhere. If I don't then this problem is much worse, and always happens in the wrong places.

I know for sure that I'll have a problem when I put the truck in drive, and it starts to roll backwards.

I park on the street, I guess the hill is about 25 degrees, far from steep, but still a problem.

I'll start driving up the hill, and if I have already rolled back, then the problem will happen on the hill. The power level will decrease, the tranny feels like it's slipped into neutral, and the truck stops moving.

With a shudder, it kicks into gear again, most of the time. When the oil light comes on, the truck doesn't move, there's less power as well.

At this point, I'll put it in park, then put it in drive. If it doesn't move, then I park and shut down. Starting up will solve the problem.

Other times, I'll be coming off my street into traffic when it decides to stall out.

Unless I've warmed the truck up enough and the gauge shows the temp warm enough, this happens on a daily basis, and only on first startup. I can be going through my day and not have this issue even after being parked for a couple of hours in the cold.

Until I replace this rustbucket, I need options. I just need the truck to get through until the spring at least.

when you warm it up must be in neutral not park. tranny fluid does not pump in park. 2 minutes should get all the fluid pumped up in the tranny.

try over filling each by 1 qt. some shift kits make the trany pump coolant in park. check with Trans-Go. i am running my trans 2 qts over no trouble. i added 2qts of rear end grease. PLEASE dont flame me about this , i wont even read it. you might looking to getting the racing deep pans with long suction tubes.

Just for a reference, my '95 Dak daily driver often sees less than one minute of warm up time, year 'round, with the exception being when I have to scrape the windshield. Otherwise, if its below 40*F I'm probably already wearing my insulated coveralls for work and the thing gets dropped into gear after just enough time to buckle up and light a stogie. I don't care what the trans wants or likes, the best way to get mine making heat is to DRIVE IT. That said, my hunch is that your ride has a torque converter and/or pump problem and my first thought is to have someone that's much smarter than me take a look at it or drop the pan myself and have a peek at how much crud is in there.

My transmission does have a shift kit, so maybe that has something to do with it.

on VERY VERY rare times Trans-go will have a mistake in a kit. go back to the guy you got the kit from. something what used to happen. but i think it doesnt aplay here. if the low, rev band is loose and it bangs going into rev, pull the lever all the way to low first, then go to rev the trans doesnt bang as hard.
