Coming up to a stop light, stop in drive, and engine stalls in about a minute or two. This is occurring more often because the weather is warmer. I have found out that the engine does not stall by putting it in neutral or park after stopping. So it's a matter of the engine being in gear that causes it to stall?

The other problem that i'm experiencing is after taking off from the stop light or turning onto a road. The RPM will raise a little bit then start to bounce around, and the engine sounds real rough. Pressing on the gas does nothing because the engine still stays stuck, but it does not stall. I let off of the gas and let the truck simply idle, then I can continue on. Also, when changing gears, the RPMs will jump up to almost 2800-3000 before switching gears. Are these two problems possibly related?

I have respliced the splice located in the bunch of wires by the relay box. I have replaced the IAC and TPS. the distributor cap was also replaced. There are no transmission leaks. There are no codes. All relays and terminals work fine. All voltages have been checked and are within range. I am checking the MAP sensor after I send this post. Any suggestions?

Checked the voltage to the MAP sensor and all is normal. I can't take the stupid thing off to check the vacuum because my socket is too bulky and my heater and radiator hose clips are stuck to one another, so I can't easily remove them.

I also checked the plastic vacuum line running off the TB to the left of the MAP sensor, it's solid and has no leaks. I see that the vacuum line runs back to the solenoid. Could anything there cause this problem?

When it stalls does it start right back up. If so my guess is the IAC, I know you changed it but lots new out of the box units are bad. Try to get a replacement since it is new it should have a warranty. Next guess might be a vacuum leak which would include a bad EGR valve.

Where is the EGR at? I can't find a diagram anywhere of it's location

And an update....we might be possibly look at transmission problems here, heard some awful clunking and grinding today...only 92,626 on it too

I can't remember for sure, but I think that your '96 did not come with an EGR. If you have one it will be on the passenger side back of intake manifold with a tube running to the exhaust manifold.

I have a 94, 3.9, 2wd, auto, club cab, with 100k miles. Your symptons sound similar to mine. They became worse over time - and then would not shift into gear at all. I had the transmission replaced for $2,500.

But now i have stalling problems at stops after the engine is warmed up, and the differential is clunking during gear shifts.
