Change from auto to manual transmission in '93 V6?
The automatic transmission in my '93 3.9 is finally starting to act up. Today, two times from a start, it sounded like it is slipping, engine racing, etc. So, since it might have to be rebuilt, I wonder if a stick shift could be put in? My transmission shop would do the work, not me. Here is a YouTube video of a guy with a 6 speed in his Dakota, and the original was an automatic in his truck:

yes it can be done but a lot more to it than just the tranny. hang a clutch pedal and master cylinder, flywheel, drive shaft length issue, sensor issues, and programing the computer. and thats just some of the issues unless it is 4WD then a lot more.
Thanks guys. Well, the transmission seems to be working fine now. I'm thinking it might just be a linkage issue now. I just returned from a 400 mile trip, no problems at all cruising down the interstate at 73! I think I will get the fluid changed though. Mine is 2WD, but man, I would still LOVE to have a six speed manual like the guy in the video I posted!! Wow, that would be fun to drive!
