Question Intake questions

I recently put a Edelbrock on my truck and have a few questions. I was told by a friend that the Edelbrock is just a filter not an actual intake. He said that i should get an intake to mount on my throttle body and that my Edelbrock goes on top of that. I dont know much about these 5.2L's. I usually own newer v6's. Can someone help me understand what he is talking about? Also, when i took my stock intake off, my breather hose came off as well, obviously. Is it bad to leave that open? Thanks.

it is not considered a cold air intake, but it is an open element filter with lids. They are normally used on carb engines but most of those will fit on our throttle bodies and are pretty much the only options we have unless you want to build your own "cold air intake".
