Default 95 Dakota Headlight Short

I went to turn on my headlightsd the other day and I heard a pop, and they went out. Replaced the 50A headlight fuse, and got nothing. That's when I noticed an electrical crackling sound coming from the headlight/dimmer switch.
I pulled the switch from the dash, and it looked like a terminal came off a connector (see pic) I plugged it in, turned on the lights, and it started to melt. And blew the fuse again.

Bad switch? Bad wiring? Any other ideas?

I'm fairly decent at mechanical stuff, but electrical problems evade me. I'm thinking it'll be easier/cheaper/quicker to mount some auxiliary lights on the bumper with a switch.
