Starter replacement??? Killing me
All,
Back again. I have a 96 Dodge Dakota, 4 cyl, 5speed. I always assumed I had all the room in the world under the hood till I tried to swap the starter. What is the trick to get this out??
On another note, I am changing the starter and alternator due to vehicle would turn over, once. Alternator because voltage keeps jumping to 18 (max)v on gauge. What else is there? As I understand it, volt reg on alternator. Advance Auto people said could be computer, but that is the "great unknown". Any help would be appreciated!!!
Thank you!

okay, there is a wire that goes to the ground of the field windings of the alt. When the regulator needs juice from the alt. it grounds it to complete the circuit. Check with a volt meter on the battery to verify the voltage and then look for a rubbing wire or look into the DIY for regulator
