96 Dak, 4cyl, OHV starter replacement (giving a little back I hope)
Hi all, plenty of help from this site in the past. Hopefully I can help someone else...
Starter replacement, it was killing me, assumed with all the space, I could just jump in. Here is what I learned on this vehicle (with an odd "hats off to Haynes Manual").
Before you even disconnect the battery (especially if you are one deep on vehicles!!!), make sure you have an E12 star socket, or the starter is not coming out. I could not for the life of me rotate the starter for removal. I looked in the Haynes manual, and i'll be darned (although not very clear), you must loosen (NOT remove) the plate between the transmission (not the transmission, independent) and the engine (18mm for the big bolts, can't remember the small ones). This will give you enough play to pull the starter.
Thanks all, hope this helps someone!!!
