the debate ....
now has anyone tried the 4 to 6 inch suspension lift from a second gen.. more specific the 97-99 as it seems 2000 up were different for some reason.. I know it will require mods but how much work..... since I can get one for next to nothing from a rear ended truck.... (asking since my truck right now is daily driver)
another route im looking at is solid axle for the durability I know cost is a lot more and il need a third vehicle to get around till complete.. anyway 2 things im worried about that im not sure about so far are how steering is reconnected to the stock steering box.... and drive shaft. if it needs to be remade, custom ect....
Also would a set of dana60/70 4:10 or 4:11 not sure atm from a 80's Ram be able to shoehorn on since I can get for almost nothing from a buddy (frame rotted out and its in back yard LOL) if not il go with same as Crazy with the wagooneer but cost a lil bit around here for those...
Welding aint issue as I own 120 volt flux mig for spot welding and a 220 for harder work, and also an arc for the good stuff lol . .. also if going this way truck would be a toy then to play with the boys and their jeeps.... been welding since I knew what one was :O hell I made my front bumper ...lol
most know my truck..

I assume you're talking about the Tuff Country kit.
Not sure if the lift kit will fit a first gen, but it's definitely not a bolt-on. If it fit without modifications, they would offer it for your application, rather than just 97-99.
The kit comes with a special drop center link for the steering. It will NOT work with rack and pinion (which is why it's only listed for 97-99).
If you're a decent fabricator, an SAS is the way to go, IMO. The Dana 60/70 will fit, but they're kind of overkill unless you're going to run BIG tires and do some serious off-roading. But you won't have to worry about breaking them.

yea that's the thing... id like to know how much mod is required.... cause modding to much beyond original design will weaken.... at that point get info or pictures ect and build similar to original...
for the solid axle.. I can get the dana 60/70 for literally nothing reason I say 60/70 as im not sure exactly what it is never looked but its from a Cummins :O
but would steering be the same for that ?

Sorry, I was thinking it was a pair of axles. Let me know if you need me to take that thing off your hands for you, since you're getting it for nothing. I could use it in my other truck.
You pretty much need to fabricate the steering. I ended up with a Wagoneer dropped pitman arm (which fit my stock steering box) a drag link made up of half the Wagoneer drag link, a Chevy tie rod end, and a custom made tube to connect the two, and a standard Chevy crossover steering arm on a new passenger side steering knuckle. It sounds like a Frankenstein thing, but it works great.
