Default 87 Dakota Tranny numbers

Greetings all you knowledgeable sages.

After finally getting all of the things that were on my Honey do list complete enough. I have finally gotten the Transmission out of my Dakota. The truck had a 318 put in sometime before I owned it. I don't believe the Tranny is the original.

Here are the numbers off the side of the Tranny case.

PK4329628 9215 0839.

Since this truck is kind of a "Frankentruck" If anyone can give me any information as to Model/year or any other specifics about it I would be greatly appreciative.

I believe it's a 998/32RH.

thanks

Jake

The 32-RH sounds about right, however it's the wrong tranny for that motor. It can't handle the torque the 318 puts out. Looks like the previous owner went cheap and easy on the swap. Unfortunately the Dakota never came with the 318 in that year, so I can't tell you which tranny to put behind it. You will need to find an old ram with the 318 in it and use the tranny from that. Be sure to match your wheel drive (4x4 to 4x4 or 2wd to 2wd), and you may need a custom drive shaft, not sure tho. Maybe wait for someone with a little more knowledge to chime in
