According to the books (Chilton and a 1987 Dodge Dakota factory service manual) it looks like it comes apart as follows.
1) Unscrew shifter ****.
2) Upper boot then pops loose from a plastic insert at the base.
3) The insert pops out of the bezel. There are two tabs on both the front and back.
4) Once the insert is removed, it will reveal 4 screws to remove the bezel.
5) After removing the bezel, there are 4 more screws the hold the bezel support in place.
6) Removing the bezel support will reveal the lower boot.
There are four components that either pop or screw together that need to be removed to get to the lower boot.
I can't help with part numbers. I would also say that the boots are separate from the transmission and transfercase.
Good luck!
