Default About to roll it down a hill

I have a 1991 Dakota 2.5L manual and the other day noticed I had a bad oil leak that was coming around the rear main seal and so decided to basically do the overhaul and pull the motor and replace the rear main, oil pan seal, clutch, valve cover gasket and the whole kit and kabootle, well I dropped the motor back in and fired it up and it started idling HORRIBLY! Once I kind of stay on the gas a little bit it will start to run a little better but that's only by just sitting there in the driveway. I was pretty discouraged because I stopped the leak and dumped the money into it, so basically I'm asking if anyone has any suggestions because I'm fresh out of ideas on what it could be. any help would be great! Thanks

It could be a vacuum leak somewhere causing the idle issue and it's certainly possible since the engine was pulled. Are all the sensor plugs reattached properly and making good contact?

or you could have the timing off a bit. try advancing the distributor a bit. remember the 2.5l up to 96 are noninterference so it shouldnt hurt the internals.

Ok ill try advancing the distributor. I put all new plugs and wires on today along with a new distributor cap. Still was running the same but at least its something I can rule out. Definitely frustrating, but ill keep workin and post. Thanks guys
