What is the difference between a sealed and a ported box?

Well in my 93 I have an 1100w rms kicker and a 1000w jbl and my truck is a base model so I have a really thin box and my passenger seat just barely has to sit a little straight but its worth it

A sealed box is basically an airtight enclosure, and ported means it's a non sealed/ "vented" box if you will. You can look up the differences between the two on audio forums and the arguments will stack up for days. In the end, it's all about whats best to you and your ears.

Usually the argument is sealed "tighter bass response" vs ported "louder and fuller". I listen to mostly metal with double kicks so we're talking like 250-350 kicks per minute, plus some bass drops. My box is sealed, but I have yet to try ported so I couldn't really give you an opinion there. By no means am I a guru, but I'm happy to help with anything I possibly can.

I listen to a whole range of music ahah. So sealed would work better for the double kickers. While ported is more for steady beat (dance music I you will) is how I take it?

Putting it all in perspective I think that's a pretty good comparison. Worst comes to worse, you can usually go into best buy or any car audio place with some music on anything that plays mp3s and plug it into a bunch of different sub/box combos and hear how they sound. Usually they'll spit a verbatim on sealed vs ported starting with "My honda..."
