Default Shift kit?

I thinking about buying a shift kit for my truck. It's a 318. I'm just wondering about the pros and cons of one. First hand experience and technicalities are welcome! I've never installed one before but I don't think it is too hard. The reason why this spring about is cause I'm changing my tranny filter and sense I'm going to be digging around in there any ways.

i have used trans-go brand, i put in my self. this was years ago. they do a very good job. the trans now days are a little different. i made mine shift to hard. it doesnt need to feel like a ton of bricks. allow most of a satarday to do the job. DO get a chrysler paper FACTORY service manual, for the VERY year you have. to see the hyd curcits. and study the them till you know them in your sleep. have a 3 ft squ, clean work area. you WILL spill lots of oil so be ready. go the trans-go web site to get the info they have for you. allso check out .areds.com/ a co here in Wichita, they can answer ANY Q you have. i have known them since 1968. ONE MORE THING.
man o man i about forgot yes its a cut & past sorry. __________________
after you clean the trans. add this to your*chrysler*trans. an external fluid filter
1. go to auto-zone. get 2210, its called a power steering filter, but it is for transs to. it is for 3/8 tubing. by (magna-fine) be sure to use high pressure hose. Reff:http://www.magnafilter.com

What year truck
Transgo reprogramming kit is best
I have the very first one, still working well after all these years
you can get harder shift but that leads to broken parts with no real benefit
Transgo gives duability
do you have 42-44 (904) A500 RH OR RE
or 46 (A 518 46 RH RE)
If you tow in hot weather I'd change to 1/2 inch cooler lines like the diesels and add a cooler with 1/2 inch in and out
I use a 100 plate foot square cooler but a Ford truck Engine oil cooler also works well form pick a part Amen on teh in line cooler between converter and cooler
If the converter goes it trashes your cooler
ask me how I know
If you have the 46 BVVC as there are early and late shafts and planets
late is about .030 larger
use the larger planets on the early shaft and they strip
If you have to do a rebuild get the guts from a 47
I have the 92 early trans so I installed the straight cut diesel planets

It's a 1994 I believe a500 but not sure on that one. I've got a secondary tranny cooler on the front of my rad. I hardly tow after it lifted the thing. It's more of a daily driver and some play time in the mud when mud is around. I would have already installed a shift kit but when I swapped my rad I ran into enough problems with lines blowing and those stock self squeezing clamps not holding. Blower Motor control module lighting on fire and my tranny line blowing off on a road test. I figure I'm going to drive it for a little bit before I play some more... I've never had any good luck with this thing aha
