Default Desperately Searching for an Obsolete Part

I am hoping someone out there can help me. I have a 1987 Dodge Dakota 4x4 V6. The Height Sensing Proportioning Valve is broke and my garage will not do my brakes if I do not get this part. I have been searching the US 10 hours a day online and can not find it. I am hoping reaching out to the Dodge family that someone out there can help me find it. Will the valve from a 1988 work? I appreciate any help you can give me.

The guy at the website says the part is discontinued and recomended checking carparts.com etc. which you've been doing. Looks like the 86-87 are the only years that will work according to the parts guy at this website. I would check wrecking yards. This is where your paper phone book still has a use. Good luck

have you thought of checking another garage until you find the sensor?

like onemora94dak says:

Check http://car-part.com
(it's a site that allows searching auto wreckers all over North America)

I got a hit there for the proportioning valve from an 87 Dakota
Ram Light Truck Salvage in Portland OR 1-800-359-6017

Worth a try calling them to see if they have the height valve from the same truck.

Looks like the correct part is officially named "VALVE-HEIGHT SENSING BRAKE" Part #4313433
The parts catalog for 87 Dodge trucks only lists that part# for the Dakota.

Hendrick Mopar Parts has one listed for $253
(800) 868-1070

NO idea if they are good company (Might be one of those "multiple webdomain car parts" type places) ... just found them via a google search for that part.

I'd go on car-part.com, do a search, and then use their email form. Hopefully one of their wreckers will have one.

Here's a previous thread of someone else looking to replace it:
