Default 1995 dakota 4x4

I have a 1995 dakota 4x4 with 3.9l. When it is very cold outside(20 degrees or less) the engine will start but idle is rough and will smoth out when you take it to 1500 rpm,but when you take your foot of the gas it will most times die or will return to the lopy idle . When the engine gets up to operating temp.,you can shut the engine off then restart it and it will idle smooth and will not die when letting off the gas.can anyone help or have the same problem?

Try running some stp or some other fuel system cleaner through the fuel tank. Could have some water in the fuel system.

Depending on where you put gas in can cause an issue too. Some fuel stations have water mixed in with the fuel. I've had that problem with my old 93, stopped in at a usual station for fuel and got 2 miles down the road and the darn thing ran like crap. Turned out that the fuel was watered down and almost hydrolocked my engine.

Hi There just signed on after a short time off couple months, I have a 96 with 5.2 had the same problem above 30 degrees no problem ran fine did set a fault after awhile when tried running below 30 degrees finally found out it was the front o2 sensor, what a b***h getting it out , but replaced it runs better except for other problem I noted in a previous post seems like something binding in the drive chain.
Good luck if you havent figured it out yet

mine never set a fault and it can get to 20 degress but any lower then that, the idle will be choppy like the darn thing has a big cam in it.once it warms up a little, I shut it off and re-start it and it will idle fine.i did try gas additive but it did not help at all.i was going to try replacing the tps sensor
