Default Transmission Rebuild Progress

Greetings all, Just a quick update on the rebuild of my A998 Tranny. Once disassembled the clutches were welded to the frictions, and the direct drum had a 1/8 in groove worn in it. I ordered a modified Govenor support since the old one was thrashed, finally found a direct drum on ebay. Once the direct drum arrives I can button up the internals.

here is my question. I would like to put in the sonnax pressure regulated valve and the manual valve but on the sonnax website is seems like they both provide lube at start up. so what is the benefit of using both.

thanks.

Jake

1. go to auto-zone. get 2210, its called a power steering filter, but it is for transs to. it is for 3/8 tubing. by (magna-fine) be sure to use high pressure hose. Reff:http://www.magnafilter.com
2. for other sizes wix 58964 5/16 tube size

Default TYPO in the Factory Manual

All,

Last night while closing up the internals I finished checking clearances and torquing things down.

In the 1987 Factor Dodge Manual it list the torque for various transmission bolts at the end of the chapter, before the transfer case tear down. The torque column is in Ft/Lbs with In/Lbs denoted by an asterisk.

The Govenor body to support bolt is listed as 150 with no asterisk. THIS IS WRONG. THESE ARE 1/4-20 GRADE 8 BOLTS THESE SHOULD BE 150 IN/LBS.

150 in/lbs divided by 12 is 12.5 Ft/lbs which is about right for 1/4-20.

The Tranny is almost ready to go. Just need to Clean and install the Sonnax valves and close it up.

later.
