Default 7.25 to 8.25 rear axle swap...will 2wd work in my 4wd?

I'm looking to replace the 7.25" rear axle in my 1993 Dakota 4x4 with a 8.25" axle so I can use a locker. I found a 2wd truck with an 8.25" axle. Does anyone know if the axles are different. For example, are the shock mounts in the same place? What sort of modifications would be required?

Thanks.

I think the spring perches are going to be on the bottom of the 2WD axle and on the top of the 4WD one. Not a deal breaker, but it won't be a straight bolt-in.

the drive shaft will have to be shorter. cause the front yoke on the 8.25 is closer to to the trans. if you are swapping and have extra parts the shaft from the dooner might fit.

Oh right, I didn't think about that. Thank you much!
