Default 30 amp air conditioner fuse blows when turned on

I just bought this sweet 1995 Dakota with a V8 Magnum and when I turn on the Air Conditioner the fuse blows (not the blower fuse). The truck keeps running and when I turn it off it will not start. I replaced the fuse and then it will start. I did an Ohms check on the clutch and it reads 5 Ohms so I believe that the clutch is ok. I am now officially over my head with this one...
Thanks

And good for 2.4 amps at 12V, 3 amps at 15V, well within the current rating of the clutch fuse.

My troubleshooting chart says "Replace if current draw over 5 amps" - which, at 15V, would be 3 ohms (15 because the math is easy, and that's not that much more than the 14.4 that a good charging system can lay down). For 12V, 5A would require 2.4 ohms.

5 ohms is perfectly reasonable.

To the OP - I'd be checking the clutch wiring. On my Cougar, it developed a short where the harness was rubbing behind the power steering pump on the 5.0HO/302W motor it had. It may be something similar on your Dakota.
