Howdy!

I have a 1988 Dakota, and due to a couple of recent thefts from the bed, am going to be adding a tonneau cover to it.

However, there's a problem - the tailgate doesn't lock.

Does anyone know of a locking tailgate handle to fit the older Gen1 trucks?

Or if there's another model Dodge or even some other brand handle that fits, so I can search for the matching part?

So far I haven't turned anything up on Google.

Worse comes to worse you could go to a hardware store and mount a door lock setup on the top inner side of your tailgate or somewhere where it won't be seen unless your tailgate is down. Something like this maybe: https://www.google.com/shopping/prod...CKoCEPMCMAg4FA .

i had a tri-fold cover on my 92, it actually had a loop that mounted to tailgate and when engaged locked the tailgate to the top so couldnt open tailgate or the top, but around here if its locked, its more reason for them to try to get in..
