i need to replace my ignition lock cylinder but i cant even get my keys in the old one and i cant get the plastic bearing housing out? i really need help i am out of a truck right now. it is an 87 dodge dakota with the V6 and no tilting wheel
If you haven't found a way to get it out yet, try the '95 Factory Service Manual (FSM) in the stickys for the 1st gen Dakota. Should be similar or exactly the same for your '87. Ignition switch removal is in section 8D, page 27.

I lost the only key to my 95, base Dakota. I ended up hammering a big screwdriver into the ignition and twisting it until it broke free. There is a risk of doing some unwanted damage, but it worked for me. A few weeks later I found the lost key in a sweatshirt pocket. Damn!!!
This is a very old thread. But just so you know, you can get a new key from the dealer with the VIN and proof of ownership. I paid something like $25 or $35
