Default Finally going to attempt to fix the non working gas gage.

Has any one done it with out the tsb wiring harness? Any one have a wiring diagram? I priced out a fuel pump and for the whopping price of $300 I'm trying to avoid that. I know it's not the gage. Any tips would be awesome.

I found this a while back and just haven't gotten to it. I still suspect it is actually the orientation of the float is wrong on mine. You can get a new pump at Auto Zone for $145 or so. Its plastic but it works fine for 15+ months so far.

I haven't reread it in a while but I'm pretty sure you can use your own wire since it is only one wire that needs changing.

So all that does is connect the grounds on each harness into one wire (may or may not already be connected) and give them a common ground? Do these wires need to be connected or can I give them seperate grounds. I don't see why they need to be together

On both of my dakotas, the issue was that the sender had varnished up and with a quick cleaning and rebend the contact, they worked. However I just did that for the s & g's, because if I went through the trouble of dropping the tank for the one, and removing the bed for the other, I put in a new $140 pump in each so I didn't do the job again for a while.

See I don't know enough to figure out even what you did. I was just going to follow the instructions and hope if changing the orientation doesn't work.
If it is as you say, a fix that makes the ground into a one wire ground, I would think that made the circuit complete and eliminated paths for shorts that might draw power to occur.
