Well, new heads from Clearwater would be a good buy for you, no matter what. They heads on these engines tend to crack.

What do you want to use your truck for? Just a daily driver? Speed? What's your plans for the truck?

Its my daily driver for now and to its a single cab short wheel base so with the 318 its got plenty of power i just really would like to put a cam in it to give it the aggressive idle . Or i wouldnt mind making a few performance upgrades for more power but im not trying to spend a lot of money . Like i said im not familiar with upgrades for this truck

Yeah, a cam would be good. You'd want some new valve springs to go with the cam though, the stock valve springs are weak.

I've actually got a cam I'm selling in the classifieds section. It would work well in your truck. You can look at it here. PM me if you are interested in getting it.

Yeah im interested in the cam but i have a few questions. Do i need a stall converter , will the computer have to be tuned and did it change the idle in your truck , and what kind of power difference did it make and where did you get the cam from? And thanks for all the info by the way .

No, I don't think you need a stall converter. I would call Hughes Engines and confirm though.

The computer will not have to be tuned, however, you'd get better results if you did tune it.

Yes, it changes the idle, you will hear a difference. It's a 114LSA cam, so it still has a good idle quality, good vacuum, it won't sound super aggressive or anything like that though. The more aggressive the cam, the more supporting mods you have to do.

This cam has good power, it moves your power band up in the RPMs a bit, you do lose a some low end power, but you gain power up top.

I got the cam in 2013 from Hughes Engines. I ran it for a couple hundred miles then I took it out. I drive a Ram, and the purpose of my truck is to haul stuff, and this cam isn't the right cam for that.
