Default Body Mount Question

I was under my '89 4x4 reg cab the other day and noticed that the 4 body mounts that I could easily see were in really bad shape. I haven't seen the radiator mounts yet. I went ahead and ordered new bushings from Energy Suspension and was going to install them yesterday when I noticed the impossibility of getting to the top side of the bolt/nut to keep the whole thing from spinning. Is the "hidden" nut supposed to be held in place and not turn? Unfortunately on mine, the whole bolt is spinning but not getting loose. It is the one on the driver's side right behind the fire wall I haven't tried loosening any others yet. Should the bolts back out without having to hold the top side as I see no way to get to the top side.

Thank you

Those bolts are supposed to be held with captive nuts so they can be removed without having to hold the top nut. Unfortunately it seems that the captive part of the top nut has failed on you. The only way I know of to get to the top side is cutting metal...probably through the floor being your best bet.

FYI if you manage to get it out and need new bolts, M12x1.75x90 should work well.

Yeah I was afraid of that. Of the 6 body mount bolts, 3 of them have had the "captive" nut break loose evidently and they are free spinning. I thought about trying to cut the existing bolts off flush with the body and epoxy a nut over the hole and use a slightly shorter bolt to screw into the epoxy nut. Oh well, seems everything start snowballs into something bigger.
