a couple of days ago my heater stopped blowing heat, a half hour later it started blowing heat again. today it stopped working again i checked fuses they are good i heard it might be the resistor but i dont know where it is or how to check it. i dont have air conditioning so i dont even know if there is a resistor. i am hoping there is a quick fix to it because the cold weather is coming. does anybody have any hints on what to do

Low on water will do it or an air bubble in the cooling system In your duct work <if i remember right some one correct me if im wrong> your ducts should be controled by vacum to go from hot to cold as long as you can hear your blower running turn off your blower <with the truck running> switch it from hot to cold and back you should hear a flap open and close

 

it is not that im not getting heat the blower dosnt work at all. i would like to check the resistor because it is cheeper than replacing the blower motor but i dont know where to look

 

Check under the hood on the passenger side of the vehicle. It is towards the back of the engine compartment on the rear wall. You should have a rectangular plate fastened to that wall with a connector harness. There should be at least 4 wires coming off of it. mine has 5 because I have A/C and one of them turns on the A/C when the fan is running. Just unscrew that plate and it should come right off, but since it's machine screws, you might need a flat screwdriver to pry out on the screw as you're taking it out because it most likely has been driven in too far and the threads on the screw won't be catching on the threads of the hole to make removal easy. After you have it out, look it over and there should be coiled solid wire. That is the "resistor" there should be one wire for each fan speed setting for a total of 3 or 4. Check these wires to see if they corroded off their connections. You should have spaces available to make new connections either before or after the original connection. That's what I did for mine since I have been through that already. Mind you, this won't last for long. Mine lasted for a few months, then I just recently had to redo it. It would be a good idea to either replace it with a new resistor network, or do what I am doing an build your own and keep it out of the engine compartment.

 

thank you to harry i found the resistor and was able to repair a corroded coil the fan works now

 

Just looked at the resistor coils and that was definitely my problem too. I just rebent the coroded coil and reattached it to the adjoining post. Quick fix and works great for now. I will probably replace the resistor unit soon anyway. Thanks for the great advice, this is an excellent resource for Dodge owners.
