1991 3.9 V6 auto to manual swap help
Alright, so my tranny took a **** on me today, no 3rd or reverse gears, all others are fine. It slipped a bit when i bought it, guess it finally gave up. Tried adjusting all the linkages, even a fluid a filter change as a last resort. No luck, R.I.P.
I like the truck, 1991 Dakota, V6, 2wd, 8 foot bed, single cab, overall it's not in bad shape, engine runs like a mule, I don't really wanna sell or junk it. I'd like to drop in a 5 speed, but was looking for help as to specific parts I'll need in my particular case. Planning on pulling all parts from a junk yard. Current tranny is the 4 speed auto, a500/42rh I believe. Here's the list I gathered so far from reading the threads on here;
5 speed, obviously, (but I'm not sure which years or models will work, and also if I'm going to need a bell housing or not)
Clutch and flywheel, depending on the condition of the ones pulled
Brake/clutch pedal assembly
Clutch cylinder and affiliated lines
Driveshaft
That's about as far as I can think atm. I know the computer will need to be tricked into thinking that it's in park or neutral to start.
Any help or tips would be greatly appreciated.

For 1991, not so much the computer as the starter relay, first stop would be the factory service manual and compare the wiring diagrams.
Bellhousing should come with the donor transmission.
You'll need all you've got there, and the driveshaft.
Find a donor Dakota with the same wheel base and it should be a lot easier to grab the parts. Find a 1991, and grab the ECU while you're at it.
For appearance, find that 1991 5 speed donor and get the steering column and the filler where the PRNDL is in the instrument cluster.
Also, if your current gauge set doesn't include the tach, grab the instrument cluster (again, if possible, from the 1991 donor!) and get the tach also.

Ok, so I'm petty much spot on then, will the replacement pcm take care of all and any starting issues that come with the swap? And also I think I'll need a crank position sensor for the manual gearbox as well.
I'm not sure there IS a crank position sensor for 1991 motors ...
The PCM won't do diddly for the neutral safety switch - you'll have to ground that wire, since it's the ground side of the starter relay coil.
