I can't find one online or at AZ. Seems like the factory parts dealers say they are no longer available. I haven't called a dealer or junk yard yet. I broke mine putting in the new pump and since I have to get in there and rotate the pump to see if the gauge will start working I might as well fix this too.

 

I'm assuming you're talking about a check valve to hold the pressure when the pump is off. New sending units include one with the pump. If you want to install one just buy a universal one and install it. I'm assuming yours is a 1994 which doesn't have an external filter for the rubber hose connection. You may have to cut the steel line.

 

I don;t think you are talking about the same thing. Here is the link to the airtex I got at Autozone. http://www.partsgeek.com/catalog/199...fuel_pump.html The rollover valve goes in the big empty hole there on the right. I put this in thinking it would fix the gauge. Turns out I copied the last install and it needs to be turned. Anyway that part is supposed to be transferred from one pump to the next but when I took it off the inside of the part was either already broken or I broke it. It is very hard to get it in and out.

 

You may have to pick up a used "top hat" assembly out of a U-Pull-It type yard and scavage it out of there.

If you do - store that fuel sending unit after bagging it! You can rebuild the top hat later if you need another fuel pump.

OK I spoke to one yard so far, they only sell the whole assembly and they needed the engine size ???? They had no pump for my truck. This is a 94 Dakota sport 3.9 with a 22 gallon tank. To make my search easier What year pumps will fit this vehicle? According to the dealer the 04279941 part number is incorrect for this vehicle. He says that part is for the 4 cylinder motor. He denied it was possible they used the same part on multiple vehicles and multiple years. He gave me the part number for this vehicle and an older part number for it as well. #68043132AA #4002252 Either way all three part numbers seem to be discontinued. If you guys out there stumble across these valves in an old pump remove and save them!

 

I found a fuel pump from a 94 ($65) 90 day warranty. I think I will just install it and remove the Airtex I got from AZ. Turns out that unless my wiring is messed up the fuel pump I removed was turned 90 degrees the wrong way. It had the float facing the mid line when it should face the front. I copied that so my effort did not repair the problem it was intended to and I broke the darn rollover valve transferring it.

 

WOOO HOOOO! I have a working gas gauge. The used Mopar pump works fine. I broke the nipple on the broken rollover valve as I removed the hose. :/ so even if I sell that pump someone is going to have to deal with that. I'm going to start another post on the topic of changing out fuel pumps. I spilled a lot of gas and I could not for the life of me figure out how to remove a pump without spilling all that fuel. Even if it were way low the pump itself is filled with fuel. I was near empty the last time and it was the same thing. It would be nice to have the best info on how to do this. I loosened everything and then used a jack and some 2x4 to prop the bed up on the tank side. I'm wondering if removing the bed entirely so that you can lift the pump straight up is the solution?

 

I spilled almost none and I had my bed off.

It's how !I! would do it - and how I did it - because I'm chary about knocking that 2x4 out and the bed slamming down on me. It's not THAT heavy, but that's !MY! spine ... *grins*

Thanks ralph I realised that I had done that last time and I still had the problem of the pump full of fuel and had to tilt it (spill) to get the float out.

 

My 1988 took a while, but it leaked out of the surge tank, so it wasn't a big problem for me. I just had to stand there about 3 or 4 minutes while it dribbled out.
