I have a 1995 dodge Dakota that was a 4 banger that I am converting to a 318 magnum and that the 318 will be carb my question is that is the computer only run the engine and not anything else or do I still need the computer to run the fuel pump or can u just has a consent power to the fuel pump and just go to a regulator. Thanks

That year the fuel pump was constant run and the regulator is up front. It's a return style. However, it's also set for too high a pressure for the carb, so you'll need an adjustable return-style regulator in any case.

The computer also controls cruise, provides the tach signal, and a few other items - you'll have to basically rewire the truck, not that THAT'S a big problem with the factory service manual, which I HIGHLY recommend for what you're going to do (just so you have a handle on where you came from). I'd also recommend the paper copy - buy one used off Ebay - so that you can notate what's changed.

What transmission are you going to run? The one behind that 4banger will go "EEEP!" and toss its cookies all over the road the first good romp you give a 5.2 .

Of course, you know, you CAN do a 5.2 Magnum fuel injected, and use factory parts to do that. Just to note, that may be a bit easier. If you're going to go carbed, do yourself a favor and see if you can get the heads drilled and tapped to take either the LA intakes or the Magnum intakes, to give you a few more choices.

Ok thanks I have a manual my grandfather has been looking through it he said I would still need the computer just wanted to make sure I did. I have a 727 auto that I am going to use and I got a 4 barrell intake and carb that I will be using I just need it wired and it's running.

Well - if it's a complete motor (and BTW, is that a Magnum intake or a LA intake? Be worth noting!), then if you carb and use a HEI or even points style ignition, you can gut the computer out, forget cruise or retrofit non-ECU based cruise, and do your own VSS drive and do your own tachometer (rewiring the truck completely.)

The computer, she no gonna be happy with that carb and 727 in there! *grins*
