Nope I was suggesting he get one since he's set on getting a 1st gen he can afford. They are going cheap right now for the last year the cheapest one I could find was over $500. The $200 dollar ones popped up after I purchased the one I have. Either way its good for any car of OBDI or II as long as he has the right cartridges and since his funds are low its likely he will run into issues he has not planned on. The MT2500 or equivalent scanner will solve a lot of problems.
I liked that popcorn eating post it made me laugh.

How can one of these be used in a vehicle that does not have the plug?

ALL Dakotas, from the factory, have a diagnostic plug. The pre-OBDII ones are usually under the hood, by the blower motor resistor.

There are several plugs on mine. A blue one under the dash may be limited in what it is good for. Another 2 or 3 are under the hood on the passenger side against the firewall behind the AC tank I forget what its called. IDK what they are all for the extra ones may be just plugs that were put into the wiring harness for extras that did not come with my truck.
The Chrysler OBDI plug is four slots two over two and then next to it two horizontal slots. Make sure the seller has that plug it says CHRY-1 and MT2500-30 on it if you buy an MT2500 and a 1st gen Dodge truck. You can get most plugs for fairly cheap in eBay.

tooltime, if you can wait until you are sure about what rig you buy that would be best even if you have to be a pain in the butt asking for rides.
