Default Plenum Gasket Results

Just ordered the plenum gasket repair kit from Hughes. Who here has done the fix before? Based on the severity of the leak, what can I expect to see after I swap?
A few simple questions.
1. Should I use black RTV on the new plenum gasket, or bolt the pan out without it?
2. Should I "break it in" for a couple hundred miles after the install?
3. Should I drain the oil?
4. what things should I check when I have the engine open like that?

Hughes will provide over the phone support and here is a link to their page. http://www.hughesengines.com/Index/p...=&partid=26194 There is a link on that page to instructions of a guy doing a V8. On my V6 I had to remove the fan to get the shroud off. Everything else was the same as far I recall. The gaskets are silicone I don't remember id I used RTV. Make sure you replace that short cooling hose and get new intake bolts. I took the time to do the timing chain and add the tensioner per TSB. What I wish I had done is change my lifters out and adjust my heads. I had a coolant flush after and only used the oil I put in for a month and changed it again to drain out any debris that might have broke loose. EDIT it really improved gas mileage.

Just for my curiosity, is this for a water leak? On my 3.9 I'm losing water somewhere but I can't figure out where its going.

mark38090, If you cannot find a leak check your oil. You may have a blown gasket. If you are losing water internally it should be in the pan. It may be getting into the cylinders and being burned off. I forget how to detect that. The Intake plenum was built OE as a steel plate bolted to the bottom of the aluminum intake. The dissimilar expansion and contraction rates causes the gasket between the plenum and block and plenum and intake to leak over time. The oil gets into the intake and makes for all kinds of problems such as really bad MPG and engine problems. The Hughes Engine kit provides an aluminum plenum to fix the problem, otherwise you can just replace the gaskets and keep checking until it fails again then replace them......
