Default Need some help guys

I am in need of a little help, this old man got a lot to learn yet, maybe some of you more experienced can help me. I have a 1992 dodge dakota le, with 92k miles, auto transmission. for a while now i have been experiencing what seems to be a problem with the transmission, between 40 and 50 mph, i have this weird shifting in and out but once im over 50-55 no more problems. I can take off and and keep the gas down and it will shift through all the gears just fine and if i stay 55 and above all is fine but when i drop down in the 40-50 its starts acting up, the least movement of the pedal will cause a change. Im going to get a new filter and fluid, and i know there are some parts that can be replaced when that is done on the bottom of the transmission, could any of you give me any ideas on which part there that might be causing this problem, the transmission isn't slipping, I would greatly appreciate any help anyone could give, thanks for reading

Charlie

Check your vacuum lines, this can sometimes cause shifting issues. Then check your TV cable, it's right under your air cleaner. check for slack and adjust. Sounds like your Dak is shifting 10-15 MPH higher than it should.

Check for exhaust leak at the manifold. I know it doesn't seem related but do it. Apparently that is a common failure point. If you do have to replace the studs don't make them very tight. They only torque to 18ftlbs so slightly snug by ratchet then about two or three turns with the torque wrench will do it. I suspect people are making the stud nuts too tight and that is why the studs are breaking. A leaking exhaust in front of the O2 sensor will make the PCU change the fuel mixture making it richer and destroying the CAT. This will mess with the EGR and I'm not sure how the rest of the effects line up but I had major shifting and RPM issues even after a plenum kit repair, new timing chain tensioner, and rebuilt tranny along with all new sensors on the TB, intake manifold, crank and cam. Replacing the CAT made it run right and fixing the leaks ensures the CAT will last a while.
