difficulty of a 2.5L to 3.9L swap
Hi guys, my search for a replacement 2.5L has been difficult to say the least. Everywhere I look is a sea of 3.9's and I'm starting to think that my be the way to go. I can get whole donor trucks for the price of a used 2.5L engine in my area. I need to know if the manua trans are the same. My research shows the 92 and up 2.5/3.9 engines both using the ax-15 so I would think yes . Any info or insight on this would be great as there isn't much info on this swap. Thanks
If you want the gas mileage I think that explains the cost. I have the 3.9 and I did a lot of work and got it up to 19 mpg for one tank since then its between 14 and 17 mpg depending on how often I use the AC and how hard I drive. Really its no better than my 68 riviera or 73 caprice was.
So if this is a commuter and I were you I would spend the money on the getting a 2.5 running as in the long run it will pay for itself. Otherwise you will probably like the power of the bigger motor. You can go all the way up to a V8 in these.
