94 3.9L EVAP canister
Can anyone verify for me that this is the correct OE canister for the 94 Dakota 3.9? The guy sent me the pic. It is different than mine in that mine has a truncated port which is entirely closed on the right where what looks like a yellowed rubber cap is on this one. I'm thinking mine might actually be newer and have had the recall done but not had the sticker put on the inside of the engine bay. One thing that tells me it might not have had it done is how the canister is mounted with the ports facing horizontally. The repair calls for them to be pointing straight up.
I thought I had posted this.
I took the canister out of my truck and it has two stickers with a different part number than the one I have been searching. I was searching 4723550 the number on it is 4227048. searching that second number I found this AZ page with a picture that shows a canister with the same configuration of hose nipples on its top. Mine does not have the studs on it.
I also noticed that mine was mounted horizontally and that I must have misread the instructions as that is the correct way in the recall/TSB.
I have another possible mistake which is that rereading the TSB page http://dodgeram.info/tsb/recalls/7631.htm It does not say Dakota on it only Ram. I think that makes my whole idea that the Dakota has the carbon leak problem false. I also spoke to Dodge at dodge.com and they told me there was never an emissions recall on my truck. The only recall (steering wheel back cover-Apparently it can catch your keys) was taken care of last year.
Anyone else reading this the same way?

Not at home to look but if it's any help I know that 87 to 90 the evaps were mounted vertical and in 91 they were more horizontal. I only know this from my 90 and the junker 91 I pull parts from. However I never took note of any actual can differences.
On my truck the canister is mounted in the front of the wheel well so its at an angle. The horizontal reference applies to the direction the hose connections point when the canister is mounted. I had read it once and thought it said to point them straight up then yesterday I reread it and see it says Horizontal. I'm really interested in knowing if this TSB actually applies to the Dakota. That Geno's page only mentions Ram trucks.
After speaking to the people at Dodge.com, the California Air Resources Board and the California Board of Automotive Repair I have come to the conclusion that the Emissions Recall mentioned on the Geno's Garage webpage does not apply to the 1994 Dakota. None of the people at those named places could find anything about emissions recall. I also did a search of my VIN on the NHTSA website with no results. The only recall on my truck was for the steering wheel backing and I had it fixed when I was informed by the people who sent me my build sheet. So I guess this project is over. I will install the new purge valve and look for a way to insert a filter just to see if any carbon gets caught.
I found this site during the search. He has 4 canisters like the one in post #31 He has a lot of new old stock (NOS) Mopar parts http://arizonaparts.com/
