Watch what you put in your tranny! (manual)
Title sounds a little dirty. Oh well.
Cliff notes: Your AX-15 tranny can have 10w30 motor oil or a Gl-3 rated gear oil. NO GL-5, disregard the manual.
Just a PSA from my own dumbass to the interwebs. When I did my frame replacement I replaced all fluids. I read that the AX-15 manual transmission was spec'd for 75w90 GL-5 fluid. I filled the tranny with some Subaru Extra-S fluid (75w-90 GL-5) that I had a couple extra gallons of. It seemed to shift fine and did pretty well in the cold weather too.
But since then I read that the GL-5 thing was a misprint in the manual, and that the AX-15 should NOT have GL-5 in it as most GL-5 fluids will eat away at the brass synchronizers. Dodge now recommends 10w-30 motor oil or a GL-3 rated fluid...and now I see why. I drained the Subaru oil that was in it and it came out silver-not silver flakes, just bright silver. I don't think that's good.
I'll get a picture of it tomorrow.
I had purchased some Redline MTL to put in but I'm going to run it with 10w30 for a week or so then flush all the **** out of it, before I fill it with Redline. Might have taken some life out of the tranny, but I'll run it till it won't shift.
