91 Dakota
I found a 91 2wd reg cab Dakota for sell it is a auto with a 3.9 motor. Says reverse is gone. May i ask how much the rebuild was? What are problems/good things abut this yr? Is the auto a 4 speed and what size tires? Would this truck/trans work driving it about 70 mph 5 days there and back for about 15 mins or so each time. What else should i look at etc? thanks
depends on what is found once the trans is opened up. If it is basic clutches and steels and seals it won't be too bad cost wise. If there are any bad hard parts (planetaries, drums etc) or valve body then the cost goes up. won't know until it is opened up.
once the trans is fixed, AND 25 years of neglected maintenance is caught up on, it will go 70MPH as long as you want it to.....

My 1988, 350,000 miles, did 75MPH-80MPH today driving through East Texas with its 3.9 .
It's having trouble up and down some of the hills at that speed, but eh, compression is low, rings are shot, it's got 350,000 miles on it.
Yours should be a 4 speed auto; and on the door decal you should get a recommended size tire. But quickly, depending on the load capacity of the factory issue, it may be anything from a 195/75R15D to a 235/75R15. I've got 235/75R15's on my 1988; the driver's side rubs a bit on a hard left turn backing up, so 225/75R15 may be a better choice without any lift.
Your biggest problems on a truck that age will be things like suspension and brake hoses; plan on doing the entire front end and all three rubber hoses as PM on one that age.
