HeyYou, my speedometer does work, but it chatters bad. I ordered the MAP sensor & will swap that out first.

Remember to disconnect the battery to wipe the codes and drive it a while before checking to see if the 52 comes back.

On a 1988, the speedo is cable driven; even if the VSS has failed, you'll still get speedo.

One speedo cable; your cruise control module is in the middle of it, causing there to be two cables (trans to cruise, cruise to speedo.)

(It's even kinkier in 1987; the VSS was between the cruise and the speedo! Yoinks!)

And notice how I knew you had cruise from that *grins*

Ahh!! What if my cruise control does not work because of a broken cruise cable that goes to the throttle body. I need to look & see which cable goes to the throttle body.

The cruise control cable to the throttle body is a different cable; but if you pull the cruise servo, you can buy a new non-cruise speedo cable for a 1988 or 1989.

Installed an aftermarket MAP sensor, with the negative battery cable off of the negative battery terminal, and the check engine light went off and has not come back on. Just ordered a set of Goodyear Wrangler P235/R7515 tires.

Recheck to make sure that the code is gone.

You SHOULD get a 12 and a 55 (12 for "Battery Disconnected" and 55 for "End of Codes")
