Default Cooling fan problems

Hey guys here's the story. Two months ago my town was flooded and I was forced to drive through about two feet of water to escape. I have a 95 sport with the 2.5l 4 cylinder. Later the same day I was unable to start it normally. Being a 5-speed I push started it several times. The next day I push started it and had it sitting idling in the driveway. After probably thirty minutes I went out and noticed it was overheating. I found the problem was the fuse under the hood that ran the starter and cooling fan and thought I had solved the problem. Fast forward to two weeks ago, I used the truck to go to town, about an hour round trip then after setting at home for twenty or thirty minutes took it four blocks down the street to the harware store. I was in the store maybe five minutes and when I restarted the truck I heard a loud pop, it sounded like one of those old cork pop guns only much louder. I got around the corner and noticed steam pouring from the exhaust. I get it the four blocks home and figure the head gasket went from overheating. I took it to a mechanic and found out the head was cracked. The mechanic put a new head on it and now tells me the cooling fan will not come on normally when the engine warms up. It works fine when you turn on the a/c. I told him the truck was driven through some water. The mechanic tells me the computer grounds the fan when the engine warms up and now I need a new computer. I'm really don't know much about the computer and was wondering if any of you guys could explain if this is the engine control computer or another system and if this sounds like a realistic scenario or not.

It could be but I would find it hard to beleave. If you submerged the fan till it died it would not hurt the computer. The computer would just see no fan

depends on if the water actually got into the computer or not. The computer simply is for telling when the fan should kick on or off.
Not to mention run your fuel injection system like mine does. I could be or check the simple things like a bad sensor.
