Help: Truck will not run, starter just click
Hello,
My Dakota decided not to fire two days ago randomly after I parked the vehicle. The engine will not turn over, and all I hear is that the starter "clicks"... It sounds like the starter is engaging and disengaging rapidly. So I assumed that the starter had failed. I replaced the starter from a replacement at NAPA. It still has the same issue. The starter continues to "clicks." I also notice that my tachometer is pinged to the far right, and has not reset itself.
I do not know why this is happening but I could use the help so far the vehicle has had.
Starter replaced.
Starter relay replaced.
Battery changed to a brand new one.
Codes are: 12 and 45.
The vehicle is a 1992 dakota 5.2L club cab rwd.

Check your battery cables, both ends, all cables.
I'll bet that the cables are failing somewhere.
As to the codes - 12 is "Battery disconnected in last 50 run cycles" and the 45 has a lot of transmission solenoid errors, but one that strikes me is "Governor solenoid voltage too low".
So fix the battery to truck wiring first; make sure you've got a good voltage to the starter; and then reset the codes and see if 45 returns (12 will stay there until there's been enough key-on or run cycles)
