Broken Coil Front Spring - Where to get

Hello,

I lived in Quebec and am the owner of a 1995 Dodge Dakota Sport, Regular Box with the 5.2L V8. I heard a banging sound recently going over bumps and thought it was my ball joints. However, it turned out to be a broken coil spring. Part of the coil was busted off near the bottom and flopping around. I need a replacement but I can't find the part anywhere. The OEM part is 52007004, but Chrysler has long since discontinued it.

What is annoying is that Moog, Centric and AC Delco seem to sell replacements for the 2.5L and 3.9L but not the 5.2L. Any suggestions? This is super frustrating - any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

I did some searches and found what you did. It could be that they used the same spring in all three. One guy on eBay was selling some for an 87-96 Dak. Nothing I saw indicated the 5.2. You may have to wait for Monday to call someone and ask if what you see works on the 5.2 rig.Or cross search other years or even the 5.9L to see if the same part number turns up.

Thanks for the info. I saw one coil being sold on ebay, but it doesn't seem to be there any more.

I found this interesting site:

http://www.industrialchassisinc.com/...ota-based-ifs/

If you scroll down to the "Coil Spring" section, it would appear that the Moog CC772 might work. Maybe I need to talk to Moog.

Good call about the 5.9L, maybe I can check that out.

On this website I can see that there are several springs available:

https://www.moparpartsoverstock.com/.../52007004.html

If I look at #32 I can see that each spring seems to fit the 2.5L, 3.9L and 5.2L. There is a different number for each colored spring:

52007003 Red Tag 2020
52007004 Yellow Tag 2125 (The one I need)
52007005 Orange Tag 2280
52007006 Blue Tag 2410
52007007 Green Tag 2540

I guess that is the GVW weight in kilograms?

Replace both as a matched set; at worst, the 3.9 springs will ride a bit lower if anything.

For sure. From the reading I've been doing the 5.2L is around 110lb heavier than the 3.9L.

If I take the spring rate of the CC772 as 716 lb/in as in the chart from one of the links above. Then 110 lb / 716 lb = 0.154" lower.

I think 5/32" should not be significant.

Heh. I could lose weight and save that much *grins*

WolfStar, we have the same problem with our '92 Dak 5.2 and just wondered which coil springs you went with. Thanks

i bought the Moog CC772 (the spring for the 3.9L). The truck should only sit 5/32 inch lower. It seems the spring rates are higher on the Moogs than factory. This may mean a harsher ride. Haven’t put the new springs in yet. It’s on my to-do list.

Thanks WolfStar, we just ordered the CC772 coil springs for our 92, 5.2L from RockAuto.
