I will have to check that factory manual. I do remember when my torque converter went out there was 4 or 5 different transmissions. And the damn thing was the most uncommon type in it. Both had the 3 pin connector as well. I swear it just seems like a chunk of wire is missing out of this harness everything else went smoothly but i went to plug in the output speed sensor there was no freaking wire anywhere. I searched and searched. I will find the service manual and let you know what i find might take a minute as ive been working 14 hour days and i suppose i should sleep sometime. Thank you for your help.

3 pin is the RH trans. if it were the 7 pin RE trans it wouldn't shift without the input to the computer from that output sensor.

Ok so i figured out my tailpiece wasnt going to work and im an idiot for trying. You guys were right i didnt see the other tubes in the tailhousing because i never saw the correct one. Went to the junkyard got a 95 dakota rwd tailpiece to go to that transmission but when i get home and try to put it on i get an inch from meeting the trans and it stops dead in its tracks i know the splines are the same because can feelit engage. Not sure if im doing something wrong or if i have to get a rwd trans not a 4x4 i thought they were the same minus the tailpiece. Losing my **** here.

Side note i measure the output shafts and the depth of gears in tailpiece. All the same as the tailpiece that slid on it.

Well until someone who knows responds there are videos on YT of guys rebuilding RH transmissions. You might see something helpful.

yup as long as the RH or RE is the same you can swap tailshafts between 2wd and 4wd trannys, done that myself many times.

ok so you put the 95 motor and trans in the 96 right? You could have retained everything 96 and put that 95 engine in and been fine.
You put the 95 trans in along with the engine into the 96? then you gotta run the 95 wiring and computer. besides just the tailpiece.

just got the tail piece on. Think i was just a little too frustrated last night spent all day fighting a front diff out of an envoy which is a task. If anyone ever asks for help doing it just tell them no. Come up with some kind of excuse. What a **** poor design.

I switched wiring harness and computer because i was going from a 3.9 to 5.2 figured it was better to keep it original than splicing in wires. The truck is misfiring and backfiring and bucks when trying to hold a constant speed. Before i put the motor in i put on new timing chain and gears every gasket on the motor pull the heads had them checked then put it all back together and dropped it in. I dont have a tach or a temp gauge now. Replaced the temp sensor to no avail and the crank sensor. I put in autolight platinum plugs, an accel coil, 8mm plug wires. Noticed the idle seems to be low but without the tach i really dont know for sure. Cant tell if the egr is functioning or not. I unplugged the upstream o2 that didnt seem to make a difference. Any suggestions on my next step?
