Default 1995 Dakota Speed Sensor Issue

My speedometer, odometer, cruise control have not been working for awhile now and I finally have time this week to fix it. I suspect that my speed sensor has gone bad on my transmission but I am having a lot of trouble locating it. I was wondering if anyone could help me out and point me in the right direction?

I’ve got the 5.2 V8 4x4.

Additionally, it has not been shifting into 4th gear overdrive. If I put a new speed sensor in would that hopefully fix this?

In the FAQ, you can locate the parts lists for your truck (also, the factory service manual).

The parts lists, page 21P-110, shows the VSS on the differential at the back.

The FSM shows how to remove and install it.
