Default Fuel Gauge Problems

1995 Dodge Dakota 6-cyl. Had previous problems with fuel gauge where after only 40-50 miles it would 'wobble'; then at 60+ miles gauge always "EMPTY". Reading prior posts on this I went and changed fuel pump itself. Brand new pump and added gas (1/2 tank). --> Gauge still shows "empty"
Could it possibly be gauge itself ? Wiring ? Please advise because now I'm stumped.

There are a lot of possibilities. Wiring, pump sending unit or something else. In my case the previous owner had replaced the entire unit and put the thing in oriented the wrong way. Cost me a lot to figure that out but now I have an extra pump. the float arm should point to the front of the truck. There is a link on the FAQ page that shows how to rebuild the sending unit on the housing. Here is a TSB I found http://dodgeram.info/tsb/1994/08-33-94.htm
I don't know anything else.

Sell the truck. Or spend a weekend pulling the bed, futzing with ****, and have it be the exact same, then pull the bed AGAIN and do everything again, think it's working, but yeah, still ****ed.

Default Fuel gauge

I had two problems. The gauge would indicate half full when the low fuel light came on. I knew the tank was almost empty. A new fuel pump with the sending unit fixed that. Subsequently, the gauge would always indicate full, regardless of how much fuel was in the tank. After considerable troubleshooting I found a short to ground in one of the wires coming out of the instrument cluster. Repaired the faulty wire and problem fixed.
