Alright so i have a 95 with a 3.9 v6. when it sits still it wants to get warm to the halfway and sometimes it will actually overheat. even when it gets to half way the transmission wants to quit shifting, it goes into limp mode. anyone have an idea?

coolant level seems to be fine, doesn’t seem the truck is using any. I’m a mechanic by trade but this is stumping me. I’m leaning towards low air flow through the radiator, but other people are saying water pump maybe. I have a thermostat on order haven’t received yet. But for 10 bucks with shipping I said screw it on the thermostat and throw a 160 in it.

Either plugged radiator or a bad thermostat, had this happen to two of my Dakotas, one would damn near overheat sitting at idle, but run frigid on the highway, the other would almost overheat because thermo was stuck shut. OEM thermostats are 195

pretty well what I suspected. Waiting for the thermostat to get here and I’ll throw it in there. See what happens. Then will move to the more expensive part for the radiator.
