Default Back to the scrap yard or why did the early Dak get a cool dome light?

Hey all
Merry Christmas to everyone!

I was heading out to return home and decided to hit my favorite scrap yard since the weather was reasonable and I'm not sure when I'll be back up that way again although it might be sooner than later.

At any rate I had wanted to ask what they might want for this old camper shell. Based on the second photo you can guess that i'm buying it. Not that it's the most attractive thing in the world but I can probably paint it and get rid of the baby poop brown. Also, it's actually in pretty good shape for the age. There's no broken glass, the screens are there, it's not tweaked in any way and the door opens and closes properly. I will need to get some new insert strips though to replace the rotted / missing ones.

And here it is fitted to my Dakota - not a beauty but it'll work for what I need, and none too soon either, the weather turned to crap late in the afternoon and it rained the whole 150 miles back to Des Moines!!

Found a few other goodies while I was there, a pair of really cool dome lights from early gen 1 Dakota, and why didn't they continue to do these? The drop down cargo light feature is really nice!

Also, on the same truck is this back bumper. I think my next trip up there I'll see about getting it for my truck, it seems to be really well made and I like how it's not really wider than the vehicle.

I was planning on hitting the scrap yard Saturday morning but when I got there they were closed. Instead I hit a junk yard that's not too far and found another dozen or so Dakotas just sitting around. Bought a few things from these but the weather was a bit chilly. I took photos of those, I'll post them up later.

All in all it was a good day today, camper shell, a jumbo farm mailbox, two early vinyl dark grey visors, pair of early dome lights.

I installed the dome light in my truck, that thing is awesome. It has regular dome light (the big lens) that works with the door switch or ****, and this light also drops down and can work as a cargo lamp for the bed, but for the front passengers there's another bulb with a switch that really lights up the front seat area.

Also ordered new struts for the camper shell and a 50' roll of vinyl reveal trim for it too.
