I have my Haynes manual on hand and I am looking at the graphic for the sensor location but just cannot find its location and which side of the engine - 5.2 ?
Does anyone have an actual picture of its location?
On my 94 it is on the passenger side at the back of the motor bolted to the block and protrudes through a hole in the trans That picture is from an angle you could only see if teh motor was not in the truck. There is a 95 & 96 FSM in the FAQ or you can get one on ebay
Hmmm, the FSM says the same thing and has the same graphic. I guess I'll have to start removing stuff out of the way, I bet there's just caked on oil and grime blocking my view of it!
The bolts come out toward the back of the truck. The hole it dips into is in the bell housing lip where it bolts up. Look directly below the EGR. It will be very close.
I did mine from on top and really scraped the back of my left hand bad on those heat shields bolted to the firewall. Instructions say to remove the wheel and that skirt and got at it from that side.
no the bolts come out facing UP.
and do yourself a favor. Get a real service manual and use that Haynes one as fire starter. Haynes manuals aren't that good.
I just replaced my crankshaft sensor on my 1993 Dakota (5.2L). I removed the wheel well liner (right front) to gain the best access, It's between the firewall and back of engine block. Use an allen wrench to remove the two bolts. disconnect and reconnect the connector plug from the top of the engine. Remove distributor cap for more room. Good time to replace the camshaft sensor, dist. cap, rotor, and wires while you're at it. It wasn't the most enjoyable repair. Not a lot of room to work with. See my earlier thread of a month back about engine quitting.for more info. I replaced both the crankshaft and camshaft sensors. There's also a You Tube video showing how to remove wheelwell liner.
