Bigger front discs? D150 knuckles? Crown vic hats?
Two posts in one day!
I want more aggressive brakes. I have stock 15” wheel style 1989 2wd dakota front discs, jeep zj rear discs, manual prop valve, a small diameter dual diaphragm vacuum booster, and a 1.125 master cylinder. I could probably swap to a slightly smaller m/c bore for some more line pressure but I like the current pedal travel. It stops well just not amazing- slows down pretty quickly but can’t lock them up. I have a 512 big block so stopping is important- the truck is fast.
I have heard the 80-95 dodge 2wd D150 runs the same ball joints as the dakota. Has anybody here used d150 knuckles/spindles swapped in to run the bigger d150 brakes and hubs/rotors? I have 16” and 17” wheels available to stuff them into so the swap could be done on the cheap if I can get lucky at the bone yard. Or there’s always rockauto.
It seems my other option is to machine the rotors off some dakota hubs then run modern hat style rotors and a custom caliper bracket. A guy on moparts did it with crown vic rotors and lexus calipers. Not too $$ bad for what you get.
I looked into a kot that does that with wilwoods and a custom 13” 6 piston setup from ‘little shop’ and it would come in around $1800- ouch.
Does anybody even offer an aggressive pad compound for the 15” wheel disc setup? Maybe a small upgrade would do the trick.
Thanks!
